Straight From School

Staff

Four Grayshott Pottery staff members and a Trustee got together recently to celebrate another year of working at the Pottery. All five joined the Pottery straight from leaving local Schools and being their first full time job.

Two are at present joint Managing Directors, Chris Greenaway and Glenn Myers and previously Phil Bates was MD, but his involvement is still ongoing as a Pottery Trustee. Robyn Clarke is the Pottery’s Works Manager and John Spicer was in charge of the firing and glazing of the pottery ware and has just recently retired.

Phil Bates said; This surely must be unique that three of us started work in our teens and eventually became Managing Directors of the Pottery. The tally of years at the Pottery for the five of us amounts to 204 years, yes an average of over 40 years each, perhaps a record somewhere in these figures!?

Phil went on to say; “Since the Pottery was started in 1956, it’s success has been largely down to the on-going passion and commitment from staff who, as well, take great pride in a business that cares and gets involved in their local community and can see the benefits for doing so.”
